TYPES
OF VARIABLES
CATEGORY:
In categorical variable,
on-numerical forms that don’t follow order
Example: The marital
status of the population with the following forms: single, married, separated,
divorced and widower.
CONTINUOUS:
It is expressed in numerical form

Discrete – in this variable
take values which are whole numbers.
Example –
number of people using cell phone in a class

Continuous – this variable take
values which are between two numbers
Example - The
height of 5 friends measured in meters: 1.73, 1.82, 1.77, 1.69, 1.75.
NOMINAL
In this variable it does not give
further information or does not follow an order.
Example – password of a person.
ORDINAL
In this variable numeric or non numeric
variable follows an order.
Example – numeric – size of shirts (40,
42, 44....)
Non numeric – sports
medal (gold silver & bronze)
SCALE
In this
variable two or more numbers are compared to arrive at information such as
difference & it should be scale.
Example – GDP
inflation rate.
